Life at Maple Reach

Goose watching over the chicks… Meet the latest additions to the Maple Reach family! Iris is a Blue Jersey Giant, Mable is a Welbar (Welsummer x Barred Rock), Edith is an Ameraucana Easter Egger and Elsie is a Starlight Green Easter Egger. 😍 Goose is fascinated — bordering on obsessed. He spends a lot of time staring down at them. They jump up on the box to get closer to him… I wonder if they’re imprinting on him?! Eleanor, Millicent and Bernadette #shetlandsheep (thanks to @concretewheels for the image) Goose is a bit concerned that Doris has climbed into the big maple tree… 😂 Thanks @concretewheels for the close-up! Sound up. 😋 The Shetlands were thrilled to get some plum and pear cuttings today. Jamie’s thinning fruit and opening up the branches for more light. #shetlandsheep #organicorchard #summersnacks I love seeing the Harrier out hunting! #harrier Sound up! This is our 10-year old HEN Claire (aka “Boss Lady). She stopped laying this year, but she still rules the roost here. And, and apparently, she’s celebrating her henopause by doing covers of the neighbor’s rooster. 💖 #backyardchickens #happyhens #hensofinstagram This has been an incredibly hard week. We said goodbye to our wonderful dog Henry, after several weeks of progressive illness due to metastatic cancer. We miss him so. 💔 RIP Penny.
